Zaïko Langa-Langa – The Big of Africa,Edition l’Oreille Internationale

Zaïko Langa Langa, front

It’s a bit difficult to extract an album title from this
LP cover, so full of information. The Big of Africa seems
a quite appropriate name for this rare recording. Leading
figure here was Pepe Félie Manuaku-Waku, with Djo Maly
on bass, Bakunde Ilo Pablo on drums. Vocals by Evoloko Lay,
Bozi-Benz, Chekedan & M’buta Mashakado. Lap up & tuck in !

tracks;

1 Tangi
2 Sanura
3 Avis
4 Petite Apoza

  1. Thanks in advance, Moos. Check out a couple of discographies, and have not found a definitive title for this. So, I guess anything on the cover will pass as a title.

  3. Thanks Moos. I never really got carried away by the ZLL wave so I’m trying to catch up. Their style sharply contrasted with the familiar OK Jazz choreography. However, later-day offshoots like King Kester Emeneya won me over.

  6. Thanks so much for this, Moos. Zaiko Langa Langa is the second greatest band, Franco & TPOK is the first. Keep it up with more Zaiko, Pepe Kalle, btw do you have any Bozi Boziana, Emeneya, more Choc Stars, etc and more Soukous if you have.

  9. Thanks Moos.

Timothy, — ZLL is pretty different from TPOK, yeah. I’m the opposite of you though, digging ZLL before Franco.

    Have you heard
    ?

  12. @Kurt:

I know. When ZLL did away with horns, they took away something that was very special to those of us who were born in the 1960s. For us, music was synonymous with sax and trumpets. Musekiwa, Verckys and Kasongo were our heroes. But tastes change so music had to cater for the young people. Hence ZLL. I love their voices though! “La Tout Neige” is just one of those tracks I often play over and over again.

  15. Can I just say what a relief to uncover a person that actually understands what they’re discussing over the internet.
You certainly realize how to bring an issue to light and make it important.
More and more people should look at this and understand this
side of your story. It’s surprising you aren’t more popular because you most certainly possess the gift.
