Zaïko Langa-Langa – The Big of Africa,Edition l’Oreille Internationale

It’s a bit difficult to extract an album title from this
LP cover, so full of information. The Big of Africa seems
a quite appropriate name for this rare recording. Leading
figure here was Pepe Félie Manuaku-Waku, with Djo Maly
on bass, Bakunde Ilo Pablo on drums. Vocals by Evoloko Lay,
Bozi-Benz, Chekedan & M’buta Mashakado. Lap up & tuck in !

Thanks Moos. I never really got carried away by the ZLL wave so I’m trying to catch up. Their style sharply contrasted with the familiar OK Jazz choreography. However, later-day offshoots like King Kester Emeneya won me over.

I know. When ZLL did away with horns, they took away something that was very special to those of us who were born in the 1960s. For us, music was synonymous with sax and trumpets. Musekiwa, Verckys and Kasongo were our heroes. But tastes change so music had to cater for the young people. Hence ZLL. I love their voices though! “La Tout Neige” is just one of those tracks I often play over and over again.
