Hello groovers, slowly rebooting I’m squeezing
one out for ya. Not full speed yet, hang on…
From 1975, this collector with at least 5 authentic
Guineean tracks. Wonderful music by superb musicians.
What the .. could have been the idea behind Makeba’s
participation on this album. Commercial reasons I suspect.
Coincidentally track 3 has some bad snaps,
it wasn’t me …honestly…
Enjoy this nice music.
tracks;
1 Bembeya Jazz National – Super tentemba
2 Horoya Band National – Were were
3 Myriam Makeba – Malouyame
4 Keletigui et ses Tambourins – Miri magnin
5 Bembeya Jazz National – Mami wata
6 Super Boiro Band – Darinole
hey groovemeister,
great blog, simply the best.
let me enlighten you about miriam makeba’s participation.
she lived in guinee in the 60s and the 70s as a guest of the government of Sekou Toure, because she had to leave the US where she had previously been, after leaving apartheid south africa.
she recorded quite a lot while in guinee, always supported by the best local musicians, taken from bembeya, balla’s band and keletigui’s band
hope this helps
keep on groovin’

I don’t know much about Miriam Makeba but there are a few things that are clear. She got married to Stokely Carmichael, a non violent revolutionary turned violent revolution proponent. That move reduced her stock with the American public & media to zero. She left for Guinea where I believe Stokely Carmichael went to as well, he would later rename himself “Kwame Toure” after his hero Kwame Nkrumah & his host Sekou Toure…..Other than that, they divorced. Stokely died in 1998 & Makeba passed away 10 years later in 2008.

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!!
Fantastic! Thanks! This is the only one in the series (1970-76, I think), that is no longer available on CD. For those of you who haven´t heard the others, check them out! 70 contains the wonderful 17 min guitar improvisation by the Diabaté masters
