from 1978 we have this album by Orchestre Tropicana or
la Fusée d’or d’Haiti. It was highly ranked on the list of best
Haitian records from the 60’s and 70’s by Sofrito labels Hugo
Mendez. Quote; ” Slick, Latin-influenced compass from the
Cap-Haitian based stars. This album runs through different
styles and tempos, from the heavily Cuban ‘Anita’ and ‘Mize
Malere’ to the carnival style ‘Erzulie’, replete with heavy
percussion breakdown.”

Uit 1978 hebben we deze elpee van Orchestre Tropicana
of la Fusée d’Or d’Haïti. Hij staat hoog aangeschreven in
o.a. de lijst van beste platen uit Haïti door Hugo Mendez

  1. In early years Tropicana were sound more latin then others… It is compas in big band format, they have done so many albums. The last in 2015, I realy like it.

    People tend to compare new music with music they know… “heavily Cuban” is a bit overdone… right bolero comes from Cuba… but bolero became part of haitian music since the 50s. By the way, there is bolero in all (spanish) countries west and south from Cuba, and all sound different.
