Deze plaat met Alex Konadu’s Band uit 1981 klinkt absoluut
niet perfect. Hij heeft wat ruis enzo en naar het eind van kant
één zit er echt wat vervorming in. Helaas hebben we niet de luxe
om een betere versie te posten. Tot er ooit een betere opduikt
zullen we het met deze moeten doen. We hadden al zo’n 17 van
zijn albums, vandaag dus nummer 18. Luister zelf ..

This record with Alex Konadu from 1981 sound far from perfect.
It has some hiss and such and towards the end of side one there
is some real distortion. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury
of posting a better sounding copy. Until that day we’ll have to
settle with this one. We already had some 17 of his albums,
so today this is no. 18. Listen and make up your own mind ..

The two other albums we had with Canadoes Super Stars
of Ghana had great response. It is one of those groups from
Ghana that recorded in Nigeria to get to sound different.
Recordings made by Rogers All Stars were more sparkling
somehow than the stuff made in Ghana itself. According
to Discogs, this should be their second album from back
in 1980. Sleeve looks quite bad, actual
vinyl a little better ..

De twee eerder geposte platen met de Canadoes Super
Stars of Ghana kregen enorm goede reacties. Het is zo’n
band uit Ghana die in Nigeria ging opnemen om anders
te gaan klinken. Op de een of andere manier klinken
elpees die bij Rogers All Stars gemaakt werden een heel
stuk sprankelender dan degenen uit Ghana zelf. Volgens
de lijst van Discogs is dit hun tweede album en uit 1980.
De hoes is in tamelijk belabberde staat,
het vinyl zelf is iets beter ..

Do you remember that seventies toy, a little bag with a machine
that laughs when hitting a hidden button? Senior Eddie Donkor
had one and used it around the fourth minute in the opening
track, ‘Eye Banker’. More funny little sounds colour this record
from 1982. On Discogs ‘Eye Banker’ is a complete different one,
a cassette while this is the vinyl version with different tracks.
During the eighties, Eddie Donkor was a popular figure in
Ghanaian highlife. Listen to this nice album ..

Kun jij je de lachzak nog herrinneren, een apparaatje in een zak
verborgen dat lachtte als je een knopje indrukte? Senior Eddie
Donkor had er ook een en gebruikt hem rond de vierde minuut
in de openings tune, Eye Banker. Meer kleine geluidjes sieren
deze plaat uit 1982. Een totaal andere overigens dan de ‘Eye
Banker’ op Discogs, dat was de cassette, dit de vinyl versie.
Compleet andere nummers. Eddie Donkor was een popu-
laire figuur in de Ghanese highlife in de jaren tachtig.

Until today we only had two records with leading
Ghanaian highlife figure Peter Kwabena Yamoah
and his Yamoah’s Band. More or less five years ago
and ten years ago. Being responsible for the discovery
of Nana Kwame Ampadu and his African Brothers Band,
Yamoah was a highlife pioneer. He founded his band in
1957. Crate digging in Paris I recently found this splendid
record wich contains some hot highlife tunes ..

Tot de dag van vandaag hadden we slechts twee platen
met highlife grootheid Peter Kwabena Yamoah en zijn
Yamoah’s Band. Zo’n vijf jaar en tien jaar geleden alweer.
Yamoah was een highlife pionier die o.a. mede verantwoor-
delijk was voor de ontdekking van Nana Kwame Ampadu

Het is alweer elf jaar geleden dat we een plaat van ze
haden. De Ashanti Brothers komen uit Ghana, dit album
is echter opgenomen in Nigeria op het ‘Rogers All Stars’
label in 1983. (label zegt 1982)Net als hun ‘Kill me and Fly’,
die we dus eerder hadden is dit een pracht highlife elpee.
Mis hem niet en luister met plezier ..

It has been some eleven years ago since we had one of
their records. The Ashanti Brothers are from Ghana, this
here album however was recorded in Nigeria on the ‘Rogers
All Stars’ label in 1983.(label says 1982) Just like their
‘Kill me and Fly’, this is a fine highlife album.

Awieama Little John wrote the songs. He was also the lead
singer on this album. Background vocals were taken care of
by Jewel Ackah and Safohene Djeni. What a splendid highlife

For all the diehard listening through noisy records I reward
you today with a solid highlife album. This one plays just fine.
Rim Akandoh worked with a bunch of groups before starting
his own. First it was Ahamano’s Band of which he was the
drummer and singer. He next joined Kakaiku’s No.2 Band as
a vocalist. After a short while he formed K.K’s No.2 Band
with A.K. Yeboah and Kwasi Manu. Finally with the help of
A.K. Badu, director and chairman of Ambassador Records
It came true, forming his Prince Sparrows Band. Listen ..

Alex Kwabena Konadu, One Man Thousand, the Wonderful
Konadu. A few names for this important figure in Ghanaian
highlife. Born in 1950, at the Adwumakase Kese in the Kwabere
No.3 district of Ashanti. Alex’ career started with Akwaboah’s
Band and the Happy Boys. After meeting with producer and
record dealer A.K. Brobbey, Alex started his own group. He
had instant succes and was judged ‘the Best Guitar of the
Year 1976 of Ghana’. One of his main albums was Asaase
Asa,, the song Asaase Asa was on various albums
among which, this one ..

bit more highlife from Ghana. The album we have here also
contains two reggae tracks but were performed by Jerry
Hansen and his Ramblers International. There are three
highlife songs as well. Just what you were looking
for. Get it and spread it as usual ..

De Todd Rundgren van vanmorgen was een extraatje. Laat
ik nu maar weer even verder gaan bij het laatste verzoekje,
nl. het posten van nog wat Ghanese muziek. De plaat die we
hier hebben bevat ook twee reggae tracks, maar werd op-
genomen door jerry Hansen en zijn Ramblers International.
Er staan ook drie highlife songs op, net wat je wilde

One of our visitors was wondering why we didn’t have
Ghanaian highlife so long. Well Edwin, it is simply because
the main part of my records from Ghana has already been
posted. There are some left however. Today’s post concerns
an album from 1987 by Slim Young. It is his latest record which
was very popular in West Africa. Slim Young died in november
2001. See the back sleeve in the file for line-up ..

Ik kreeg de vraag van een van onze bezoekers waarom er al zo’n
tijd geen Ghanese highlife was. Tja Edwin, dat is eenvoudigweg
omdat ik de meeste Ghanese platen uit de collectie al gepost
heb. Er zijn er nog wel een paar over hoor. Vandaag hebben we
een plaat met Slim Young uit 1987. Het is zijn laatste welke in
West Afrika tamelijk goed werd ontvangen. Slim Young
overleed in november, 2001. Kijk voor de bezetting,
in de file, op de achterkant van de plaat ..

Yesterday we had Ebo Taylor’s first solo album. One of the groups
Ebo started his career in was the Uhuru Dance Band. The band was
formed by members of the Broadway Dance Band. According to
Discogs this was the first of their albums from 1971 called ‘Uhuru
Special Highlife Numbers’. Label says 1970 btw. I am not sure if Ebo
Taylor is part of the band on this here record. Maybe one of you
knows .. please share your knowledge with us ..

Gisteren hadden we de eerste solo elpee van Ebo Taylor. Één van
de bands waarin Ebo zijn carrière begon was de Uhuru Dance Band.
Deze werd gevormd door leden van de Broadway Dance Band. Vol-
