City Boys International Band – Merefre No
Diram Recordings 1982

City Boys International, front

Here’s another lp by the black chinese. Obuoba J.A. Adofo
and his City boys were here a few times before and gained
quite an audiance. They are one of the most popular guitar
driven highlife groups of the era together with among others,
Nana Ampadu and the African Brothers, the Ashanti Bros.
and Alex Konadu’s band. The lp’s got a couple of scratches
but not too serious, it’s a recommender all together..

tracks;

1 Sikyi Medley;
– Merefre no
– Na mese odo mmra
– Yee naa
– Kesewa
– Yaw donko owora
– So wo tuo mu
2 Adenkum Medley
– Nnonko odede
– Mene wo beko man bi
– Babi a mewu
– Bonini abena
– Mede ama onyame

Last night’s closing party of the Amsterdam World Cinema
event was real nice. In a causy small cinema bar we had
a world dance evening with great atmosphere. I was happy
to meet with some of our blog’s loyal visitors and party
together. If you can make it to next saturday’s party would
be very nice. We’ll have an evening with lots of African,
Brazillian, Cuban, Colombian and several caribbean styles.
”Movimento Tropicano”
It is at the Amstelveenseweg 23, Bar São Paulo..
in Amsterdam. If you can, drop by and dance
with us all evening from about 22.00 till 3.00

    The City Boys are always welcome here, but I’m afraid we’re a long ways from Amstelveen. I did stay there for about 6 months when an exchange student back in 1971, and again briefly in 2006: a great community, with more cultural activity than in almost any group of US cities 3 times the size, Moos. We’re lucky here if the local arbiters of the arts bring in Amadou and Mariam once a decade, and call it “highlife.” Yeah, right.

    for a moment I thought you had given up or ran out of Ghanaian highlife music… this surely makes up for the wait …. a million thanks Moos

    Thanks a lot Moos for this great LP, City Boys are one of my favorite bands! In the future, can you post the rare albums “in Nigeria vol.2” and “Asubonten” if you have them?
